Lunenburg is a charming UNESCO World Heritage town just an hour’s drive from Halifax, Nova Scotia and its many attractions. While it’s nice to have a car to get to Halifax and many other wonderful destinations in Nova Scotia, you can also hang up the car keys and get around by foot while living in this house: all grocery stores, schools, restaurants, cafes, art galleries and more are within a comfortable walking distance. Also, the entrance to the scenic Back Harbour Trail is not far away, meaning that it’s easy to enjoy long walks on a beautiful path. The house is located on central Lincoln Street, which is busy but not too busy; in the back, the house’s yard is skirted by a walking path (Donut Hill) and behind that there is a small field. This means that out back it is quiet and secluded, with quite a few trees around.
The house itself is roomy and cozy. With its insulated walls and roof, heating costs are kept low. Heat is provided by a heat pump and an oil furnace. Dating to 1862, the house is older than Canada and features a lot of old charm: original mouldings, wooden floors and railings. Three rooms are set up as bedrooms, one single and two doubles, but there are also a large and a small office which provide additional space. There is one large bathroom with a clawfoot tub, and a cozy living room. The spacious kitchen on the second floor has a southwest orientation, meaning that you can enjoy the flood of evening light and beautiful sunsets while you cook dinner. On the south side of the house, views of the glistening harbour open up when the leaves come down in the fall (a reason to look forward to November!). The landscaped backyard has approximately the same footprint as the house, and with its two maple trees, as well as bushes and flowers, it is a lovely place to sit in the warm months. The attractive fence around the yard makes the house ideal for dog owners.
